SiteSpect Preview Message

Background:I'm the principal UX designer at SiteSpect, a web optimization company that offers an A/B testing, personalization, and recommendation platform.
Problem:SiteSpect's preview feature was sometimes very slow to launch. SiteSpect didn't have the bandwidth to fix the underlying problem at this point in time. As a short term approach, they needed to communicate the delay to the user.
Solution:A good way to soften bad news is to provide something fun and delightful along with it. To accompany the slow preview message, I designed and built a swimming fish animation. I had previously introduced this fish in the product in other situations where the user might feel frustrated or disappointed. Here the fish moves its fins and tail while swimming back and forth in a realistic motion. I wrote the animation from scratch in CSS.
